Planning a wedding is an exciting time for any couple but it can raise some challenges, like how do you personalise your wedding and make it reflect you? Nobody wants a wedding that feels like it is a copy and paste of someone else’s. To help you avoid this, we’ve put together our top tips on bringing your own kind of razzle dazzle to your special day!
Customise your ceremony
We’ll start with a big one! Your wedding ceremony will be one of the most memorable parts of your wedding for obvious reasons, so it’s important that it feels authentic to you.
There are so many ways to add your own character. You can ditch the traditional walking down the aisle music and opt for a song that means a lot to you and your partner, indulge in pre-ceremony cocktails or walk down the aisle with your partner rather than being given away. You can even choose to dance down the aisle if that takes your fancy!
If you have a pet, you can also get them involved as ring bearers (depending on how much you trust them!), flower ‘girls’ or simply have them accompany you down the aisle.
Include fun signage
Funky signage is a lovely way to add a little bit of you to your day! From colourful neon lights to rustic wooden signs with elegant calligraphy, there are plenty of styles to choose from. You can write out your favourite quotes, an excerpt from your wedding vows, song lyrics or just your initials; the possibilities are endless.
If you’re a dab hand at all things crafty or just want your wedding to be as eco-friendly as possible, you can choose to recycle things like pieces of wood or source items from charity shops to create your signs with. Plus, this is a cost-effective option if you’re planning to stick to a strict budget for your day.
Signs also make a great backdrop for your wedding photos, and you can make them interactive for your guests. For example, you can revamp an old mirror to include a quote that your guests can then take photos in!
Customise that cake
Nowadays wedding cakes are a lot more exciting than a generic white cake. Make your cake a true reflection of you and your partner by including something you both love in the design. This can be anything from a shared hobby to a pet you have together. You can also personalise your cake topper with a favourite quote, something tongue in cheek or your names.
If cake isn’t your thing, you can opt for something totally different! Have a desserts table, set up an ice cream bar or go for savoury options instead if neither of you have a sweet tooth.
Make a movie
This is a charming way to share the magic of your relationship with your wedding guests. You can include home videos, photos or quotes and extracts from your favourite films that show your feelings for one another. This is great to project against a wall at the venue for guests to enjoy at their leisure. If you’d rather everyone watched it together, you can include it during your speeches or at your drinks reception instead.
Create unique jewellery
Whilst this may not be a detail your guests notice, unique wedding jewellery that has been lovingly crafted for you is guaranteed to make your day extra special. After all, it is *your* day so why not have that special touch just for you?
There are plenty of designers out there you can work with to help you and your partner create the perfect jewellery for your wedding. This doesn’t have to just include rings either, it can be anything from a bespoke necklace to one-of-a-kind cufflinks.
Pick unique entertainment
Having entertainment at your wedding? Choose something that just screams you. Met at a comedy club? Hire a comedian! Share a love for country music? Have country music as your wedding band! Are both you and your partner heavily tattooed? Set up a temporary tattoo station! We could go on but well… you get the idea! From fireworks to outdoor games, there are so many entertainment options that you’re sure to find exactly what suits you.
